Fieldbrook Foods Corporation is clarifying that the previously announced voluntary recall of all orange cream bars and chocolate coated vanilla ice cream bars that were produced in 2017 on the company’s Hoyer 1 Line at its Dunkirk, NY plant (plant code 362677) also includes 28,751 cases of Raspberry Cream Bars that were included with Orange Cream Bars in ALDI seasonal split-case purchases. The split-cases were shipped between March and August 2017. These products are being recalled due to the possibility that they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only shortterm symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The Hoyer 1 Line in Dunkirk, NY is the only production line and the only Fieldbrook Foods plant (of 3) involved in this recall notice.

The recalled products have a production date of January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017 and a “best by” date of January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018. The Hood and Kemps products may show a “best by” date of July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019. Fieldbrook Foods is working with each of these retailers to recall the affected products.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
The potential for contamination was noted after routine industry testing revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in only a few ice cream bar samples of many tested. The expansion of the recall is out of precaution for consumer health and food safety after a few additional samples tested positive for the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. There is no evidence of any contamination prior to October 31, 2017, but the company has issued the recall back to January 1, 2017 through an abundance of caution and in full cooperation with the FDA. The company has suspended production and distribution of all products produced on this production line while it cooperates with the FDA to fully investigate the source of the problem.

January 8, 2018 – Gilster-Mary Lee, 520 Old St. Mary’s Road, of Perryville, Missouri, is voluntarily recalling one lot of Essential Everyday® Coat & Bake Original Chicken coating, UPC 41303-01572 at the consumer level because it may contain undeclared milk.  People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The only lot involved is Essential Everyday® Coat & Bake Original Chicken coating, packaged in 6-oz. cartons which have a Best By date of NOV 15 18 D04  (UPC# 41303-01572).  Consumers should return the product to the store for a full refund or discard it.
The product was distributed to SUPERVALU distribution centers in New Stanton, PA, Fort Wayne, IN, Urbana, IL, and Anniston, AL. Gilster-Mary Lee Corp. became aware of the mispackaging after receiving a customer complaint.  No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this coating mix.

Dollar General Corporation announced a voluntary recall of its 12-ounce packages of Clover Valley® Iced Oatmeal Cookies with lot # L46217 30 with a best-by date of August 18, 2018 over concerns of undeclared milk and tree nuts. Consumers with a milk and/or nut allergy or sensitivity to these items should not consume these products due to a possible health risk or serious allergic reaction. No illnesses or reactions have been reported at this time.
Dollar General initially learned of a potential issue based upon information received from a store level employee. The Company promptly contacted the product’s manufacturer who confirmed a production facility labeling error in which Clover Valley® Coconut Macaroons were inadvertently placed in Clover Valley® Iced Oatmeal Cookie packaging. Dollar General then contacted the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to initiate the voluntary product recall. The affected product package image is below for reference.

Customers who purchased this product are encouraged to discard it or return to their local Dollar General store to exchange the product for a like item. Fieldbrook Foods Corporation of Dunkirk NY has issued a voluntary recall of 20 cases of the Tops brand of Orange Cream Bars and 320 cases of the Meijer Purple Cow brand Orange Cream Bars due to the possibility that the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The recalled Top’s Orange Cream Bars were sold in Tops retail stores located in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Vermont.  The product comes in a 12 ct retail box (pictures attached).  The product has a production date of December 18, 2017 and a “best by” date of December 18, 2018.
The recalled Purple Cow Orange Cream Bars were sold in Meijer retail stores located in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Wisconsin. The product comes in a 12 ct retail box (pictures attached). The product has a production date of November 30, 2017 and a “best by” date of November 30, 2018.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall is out of precaution for consumer health and food safety.  The company has suspended production and distribution of the product while it cooperates with the FDA to fully investigate the source of the problem.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 5, 2018 – Crescent City Meats, a Metairie, La., establishment, is recalling approximately 430 pounds of Ready-to-Eat (RTE) Tasso Cajun Spicy Ham products because the RTE product may be underprocessed, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The products were produced on Nov. 9, Dec. 18, and Dec. 20, 2017. The following products are subject to recall: [View Label (PDF only)]
  • 5-lb vacuum packs that were shipped in 10-lb. cases with the product labeled “TASSO CAJUN SPICY HAM READY TO EAT.”  The cases contain lot codes 1631317, 1635517, and 1635217 or 35217. 
The products subject to recall bear the establishment number “Est. 13244” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The items were distributed for institutional use in the New Orleans metropolitan area.
The problem was discovered on Jan. 4, 2018, when another federal establishment who was further processing the product noticed that the RTE product appeared to be raw.  Upon investigation, FSIS Inspection Program Personnel verified that some of the RTE product was underprocessed and could be undercooked.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. Hong Lee Trading Inc., NY, is recalling its CHAO CAFÉ VIETNAMESE INSTANT COFFEE MIXED 3 IN 1, 384 GRAM, CONTAINER CODE JUNE 06 2018, because they contain undeclared milk allergens. The recalled CHAO CAFÉ VIETNAMESE INSTANT COFFEE MIXED 3 IN 1 were distributed in the Tri-State Area. The product comes in a 384 grams, in plastic packages. No illnesses or allergic reactions involving this product have been reported to date.
The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of milk allergens in the packages of CHAO CAFÉ VIETNAMESE INSTANT COFFEE MIXED 3 IN 1 which did not declare a milk ingredient on the label.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 4, 2018 – Hempler Foods Group, LLC, a Ferndale, Wash. establishment, is recalling approximately 4,068 pounds of pepperoni sticks products that may be contaminated with extraneous material, specifically metal, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The pepperoni stick items were produced on Oct. 10, 2017. The following product is subject to recall: [View Label (PDF only)]
  • 2.25-lb. vacuum-packed packages containing “HEMPLER’S FAMILY CLASSIC PEPPERONI NATURAL SMOKE FLAVORING ADDED” with a “packed on” date of 10/10/2017 and case code 59716.
The product subject to recall bears establishment number “EST. 6410” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were distributed for institutional use and shipped to retail locations in Eastern Washington.                             
The firm notified FSIS after receiving three consumer complaints, reporting small metal pieces in the pepperoni products. 
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 16, 2017 – Piller’s Fine Foods, a Waterloo, Canada establishment, is recalling approximately 1,076 pounds of ready-to-eat salami and speck products that may be adulterated with Salmonella, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The ready-to-eat speck prosciutto and salami items were produced on Sept. 22 and Oct. 12, 2017, respectively. The following products are subject to recall: [View Labels (PDF only)]
  • Vacuum-sealed random weight plastic packages containing “Black Kassel Piller’s Dry Aged D’Amour Salami” with Best Before date of May 12, 2018
  • Vacuum-sealed random weight plastic packages containing “Black Kassel Piller’s Dry Aged Speck Smoked Prosciutto” with Best Before date of May 12, 2018.
These items were produced in Canada and were shipped to distribution centers in California, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey and New York.         
The problem was discovered when an FSIS sample of the ready-to-eat salami product was confirmed positive for Salmonella. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. The most common symptoms of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating the contaminated product. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Most people recover without treatment. In some persons, however, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. Older adults, infants, and persons with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop a severe illness. Individuals concerned about an illness should contact their health care provider.
FSIS and the company are concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers’ freezers.
Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Springfield Smoked Fish of Springfield, Ma.is recalling its 1lb. packages Prescliced Nova Salmon because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
The recalled packages were distributed to customers in Rhode Island and Connecticut through retail stores.
The product comes in a 1lb, clear plastic package marked with lot # 42173 on the back of the package and with an expiration date of 12/22/17. UPC 811907018018.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
This issue was identified after FDA product sampling identified Listeria monocytogenes in the product.
The production of the product has been suspended while FDA and the company continue to investigate the source of the problem.
